The Next Step Program

Once an individual or family’s emergency needs are met, referrals are given, and their situation has stabilized, some may be ready for the “Next Step”.

Breaking that cycle of poverty takes a team effort.  That team begins with the Next Step program, a collaboration of St. Vincent de Paul Appleton, LEAVEN and Homeless Connections.  The program provides additional assistance to individuals and families in our High Risk Prevention Program who are interested in receiving guidance, support, instruction and encouragement from specially-trained volunteers.  These households often face many daily barriers to overcoming chronic poverty.  Volunteers help the family meet their financial goals and become more personally effective in their daily life.  Their approach is very positive and encourages clients to take inspired actions, embrace change and celebrate successes.

The Next Step Program strives to create systemic change by addressing the root causes of poverty and reducing the likelihood of generational poverty in families.  Many of the program participants have shown progress and depend less on community resources.
